More Information

In Adlershof, Berlin’s first motorized airfield and namesake of our hotel, the pioneers of aviation  worked on machines that would connect different people and worlds. This was considered to be the cradle of German aviation. In the early 20th century, the predecessor of the German Aerospace Centre (1) was founded at the suggestion of Count Zeppelin. Some historical buildings such as the Great Wind Tunnel (2) or the Trudelturm (3), which were built for research purposes, are still open to visitors today.

After flight operations ceased in the mid-1950s, a large scientific research centre for physics, chemistry, materials, air and cosmos research was built. This was the forerunner of today’s Adlershof Technology Park. In 2003, the mathematics and natural sciences campus of Humboldt University (4) moved to Adlershof. Adlershof is now regarded as Germany’s largest and most successful science and technology park and is operated by WISTA Management GmbH (5).

Adlershof developed early on as a location for the production of feature films and was the broadcasting site of the GDR TV station ‘Ostdeutscher Fernsehfunk’. With over 200 companies, the media city is now considered Berlin’s largest media location and is home to Studio Berlin (6), where well-known TV programmes are produced.
